Mary Magdalene, A Disciple and Friend of Jesus is a book for children. Its storyline and illustrations describe the incredibly close relationship that she shared with Jesus. When Pope Gregory, the bishop of Rome from 590AD-604AD, incorrectly conflated several Gospel stories about the women who anointed Jesus, he incorrectly identified all the women as Mary Magdalene, so that she became known as a ‘prostitute.” It took 14 centuries before the Roman Catholic Church corrected his error at Vatican II and finally recognized her as the Apostle to the Apostles claimed by the Orthodox Church. As the first to meet the resurrected Jesus, Pope Francis equated her to the 12 Apostles in 2016.
